As is the case in many African countries, HIV/Aids and Malaria is a major problem in Cameroon, and affects many families and children. Half a million people in Cameroon are infected with HIV/Aids and there are a quarter of a million Aids orphans. Many misconceptions exist on how one can become infected with HIV/Aids and how to interact with those who are already infected. Furthermore, every year around one million Cameroonians become infected with Malaria, among these are many children.
Knowledge for Children aims to contribute to a better future with an abundance of opportunities by giving education in these areas from an early age. This is important because both boys and girls are sexually active from an early age, while their behavioral patterns are not yet fully developed and can therefore still be shaped. The education for HIV/Aids and Malaria prevention is given to parents and teachers in cooperation with local hospitals. Additionally, Knowledge for Children has started a research amongst primary school children in order to ascertain the scale and core of these glaring issues.
